tHE mONOCACY pAVILLION
Nestled on a scenic overlook, the Monocacy Pavillion’s site is home to three intersecting points along the paths, representing when both sides of the Civil War engaged in battle in Frederick, Maryland, and when the path splits, it mimics their travels to the following historic battle. Along with this, the Visitor Center and site paths were a team design between one peer and I. Physically, the two main paths on the site enclose the overlooks program, including the Educational and Administration building that incorporates an aluminum facade, photovoltaic panels, geothermal wells, and a green roof, which reduces its environmental footprint while enhancing energy efficiency and resilience. As a community gathering space, the Monocacy Pavillion fosters collaboration and lifelong learning, standing as a testament to the harmony between sustainability, history, and community.
